My name is Christopher Sebela.
I was born in Chicago, Illinois, lived in Kansas City, Missouri and currently live and work in Portland, Oregon.
In the past I've written journalism for outlets for comics websites from indie precursors like Savant to recently deceased sites like Comics Alliance, alt-weeklies (well, technically just one, The Pitch, but my reviews often got reprinted in other papers in the New Times/Village Voice network), art and artsy magazines (The Speck, Kitchen Sink), music review sites (Pitchfork) to weird assignments like heating and plumbing contractor industry magazines (Heating and Plumbing Contractor News – catchy name, right?). I've gotten to interview people like Walter Mosley, Jonathan Lethem, Jello Biafra, Ira Glass, Erik Larson, Charlie Murphy, Bill Burr and Rick Bragg.
I've always been better at making stuff up, so I've written tons of long form fiction which no one will ever see. Two whole novels. They're pretty bad. I mean, not awful, but you know how it is. They live in the dusty corners of my computers. They're novels some dummy wrote. Eventually, while freelancing as a graphic designer and quickly noticing that I wasn't super good at it, I was like, "Hey, writing, remember that? You're better at that than you are at this." Tthat was quickly followed by "Hey, comics!" Now I write comics.
I have written for these publishers:
DC Comics, Marvel, Boom Studios, Dark Horse Comics,
Oni Press, Skybound, Image Comics, IDW and Dynamite
I've co-written these comics:
SCREAMLAND: DEATH OF THE PARTY, CAPTAIN MARVEL, FANTASTIC FOUR,
GREEN LANTERN & SPACE GHOST ANNUAL, DETECTIVE COMICS.
I've written these comics:
INJUSTICE GROUND ZERO, SUICIDE SQUAD MOST WANTED,
DEMONIC, ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, GHOST,
ALIEN VS PREDATOR, HELLRAISER and SHADOWMAN.
I've co-created and written these comics:
HIGH CRIMES, CRUEL BIOLOGY, DEAD LETTERS, WE(L)COME BACK, HEARTTHROB.
I'm currently at work on several zines for my DUMBSTRONAUT series.
Book 1 is I LIVED IN A CLOWN MOTEL. Book 2 is POOL DISASTER.
Books 3 and 4 are forthcoming.
I am a co-founder of the indie collective publishing imprint, Two Headed Press
I hide in coffeeshops and movie theaters when not (or mostly while) working as a writer.
Currently, I'm working on several new comics projects and thinking about writing a novel that isn't terrible.
I never ever sleep if I can help it.
