From the original solicit text:
"Porn impresario Devil Fish might be dead, but he still has one last appearance scheduled: his funeral. Covered by a new reporter on the monster beat, Emily Hoffman, Devil Fish’s last act will prove the only thing stranger than the life of a monster is the death of a monster."
And that was Screamland #6.
Hope you enjoyed it. It’s more rewarding if you read the 5 issues that came before it (which, if I can stop to remind you one last time, you can always pick up in trade or digitally) but hopefully you could enjoy the chaos of a monster funeral even without a lot of previous knowledge.
Like I’ve said before, this issue was meant to be a start, as a toehold that would open up the entire world full of monsters. Not just the ones who came to Hollywood, but the ones who stayed where they were, treaded new paths, we were going to explore scream queens and alien invasions and giant monsters and… Boy, we had some plans after this one.
Issue 7, which I included the cover for, was all about the alien contingent of monsters, how they fit in with everyday life, how they stuck out and whether they’re keeping any deep dark secrets.
Issue 8 was all about a monster museum, complete with Emily and her roommate Danielle fighting it out with some gremlin-knockoffs with a Buffy scythe knockoff
Issues 9-12, well, I still think about trying to do that someday, so I’ll keep it to myself. But lord, did we have plans.
But better than plans, we have a book. And a book is pretty great.
RIP Screamland, you were too beautiful for this world and I’d do it all again if I had to.
