Caption: Canadian sailor Mylene Paquette celebrates her arrival at the French port of Lorient on Nov. 12. The 35-year-old took 130 days to cover the 4,300 kilometer stretch across the Atlantic from Halifax — over a month longer than planned. She capsized 10 times, on one occasion losing an anchor and her satellite phone. But it wasn’t all grim: A pod of pilot whales accompanied her for ten days and when she lost her satellite phone, the distress call was picked up by the Queen Mary 2 cruise liner, which veered off course to bring her a replacement phone and chocolate.
