So this came out today.
The collected trade paperback of the first five issues of SCREAMLAND, complete with shiny paper stock, a delicious halloween mask smell to it all and a real, true, honest-to-jesus ISBN number that I can assign to the madness that was 2011.
It almost feels unreal, but just almost. I put a lot of work into this book, right down to designing the book itself, something I’ve never done (which will either shock you since you think it’s so pretty or makes total sense since you think it’s an affront to the global network of design sense) and to have it in my hands, on my desk, on my shelf — alongside books by authors I know and adore — makes everything we went through to make this book happen almost seem completely worth it.
There’s indelible memories in here that stretch back to 2008, when we originally conceived of this, so, since I’m completely crap at keeping a journal and gave up blogging (back before giving up blogging was cool), this will have to stand as a roadmap of the last year of my life. I certainly can think of way worse things to mark ones time and I’m grateful that the book will have a whole new life as a volume unto itself.
Oh, I guess I shouldn’t forget to shill. You can pick this up at your local comic book shop (and if they’re out of them, you can always ask them to order you one) or buy it via online comic shops like Things From Another World or Midtown Comics. Thanks for listening. Today, I love you all. Yes, even you.
